Synopsis
Based on the novel and the hit-movie of the same name, Legally Blonde: the Musical chronicles the journey of the famously perky Elle Woods, a fashion-savvy, UCLA sorority girl who finds her life turned upside down when she is dumped by her boyfriend Warner. In an effort to prove to Warner that she is more than just some blonde sorority girl, she follows him to Harvard Law, where she struggles to fit in and do well. Ultimately, she defies expectations and manages to stay true to her delightfully pink personality.

Honoring the past, inspiring the future- The Hollie Surber Memorial Scholarship

With every production Abrams Spotlight Productions brings to the stage, there is something truly special happening behind the scenes. Volunteers walk through our doors with a shared love of storytelling, creativity, and community- and they leave lasting impressions on our organization and on one another. Theater has a remarkable way of bringing artistic minds together, creating bonds that often grow into lifelong friendships long after the final curtain call.

Hollie Surber Headshot

One volunteer who left an indelible mark on ASPI was former Board member Hollie Surber, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023. Hollie was a familiar and comforting presence at nearly every production, faithfully serving behind the concession stand and dedicating many years as ASPI’s Board Treasurer. Her commitment to the organization went beyond her volunteer hours- her family was deeply involved in ASPI as well, with her children actively participating in our productions. One of her children continues that legacy today and will be appearing on stage in our upcoming production of Legally Blonde the Musical.

Hollie’s passion extended far beyond theater itself. She believed deeply in creating a space where young people could feel confident, supported, and encouraged to shine while doing something they love. She understood the power of the stage to build character, confidence, and connection- and she worked tirelessly to make ASPI that kind of place for kids and families in our community.

In honor of that passion and dedication, the ASPI Board proudly established the Hollie Surber Memorial Scholarship. Each year, ASPI awards one or two scholarships of up to $500 to graduating seniors to support their educational pursuits. Past recipients have included students who plan to continue their journey in theater professionally, as well as students who carry a strong love for theater as a lifelong hobby and have given back through volunteering and community involvement. This scholarship reflects the many paths theater can inspire- and the lasting impact it can have, no matter where life leads.

The Hollie Surber Memorial Scholarship is a natural extension of ASPI’s mission and vision. Our mission is to produce and perform professional-quality, affordable, family-friendly theatrical productions that build confidence and character, while fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and creating memorable experiences for all. Our vision is to continue growing ASPI as a regional performing arts presence in Abrams, Wisconsin- one that entertains audiences, educates participants, and inspires meaningful community connections. At its heart, this scholarship represents everything ASPI strives to be.

Are you a graduating high school senior who may be interested in applying for this scholarship? Or do you know a student who would be a great fit? Keep an eye on our social media pages and email newsletters for upcoming details, including application information and deadlines. We can’t wait to support the next generation of students as they pursue their educational goals- while celebrating the artistic passion that connects us all.
